Random Kid Moments #6

They busy-ness of life is in full effect. Lots of projects going on, school finishing up with lots going on there as well. Summer is approaching quickly, with lots to do as well. All in good fun though. I have more to share with you with what I have been sewing and creating. I will share as soon as possible.

For now, I will leave you with these tidbits from my munchkins...

Only hearing pieces of a conversation between my kids...
Girl: ...and it doesn't have makeup anymore. I'm too pretty for makeup.
Me. LOL
Girl: What? That's what Daddy says!
Me: I know, Honey. He's not wrong. :)

-----------------------------------

She also said the other day on the way home from church that she felt like she was going to be married. Hmm. Apparently she will marry one of the kids from daycare who is five years old. Lately she has also been saying that she wants to have two babies growing in her tummy. Twins. Both girl babies, and that she is going to stay home with them.

-----------------------------------------

The boy is learning a difficult lesson about making choices. We have been unhappy with some of his behavior at school. He got yet another note sent home, this time about having a difficult time talking and playing. I told him he was free to make any choice that he wants, but that he was not free from the consequences of that choice. He is not happy about his consequences at the moment. Hopefully it will be a lesson learned.

Random Kid Moments #5: Silly kids

Just some recent musings from the tiny people living in our house, late 2014 era.

While trying to get the boy to get ready for bed, and he was in no hurry to do so...

Me: If I were you, I'd hurry up.
Boy: If I were you...tread carefully here, son o.0...I'd be a ninja.

Well, that certainly wasn't going where I thought it was.

The next day for school he was looking for his black shorts to go with his black shirt he picked out from his closet, so he could be a ninja. I did inform him that ninjas worked hard to earn that status, and he should be a ninja student at school. We'll see if that works.

------------

The boy and the girl were squabbling and I put in my effort by telling them to stop doing whatever it was they were doing. Then the girl started a little whine/cry.

Me: Get away from him. Why are you following him around anyway?
Girl: Because I am his sister and that is what I am supposed to do.

Well, she's not wrong about that. :)

----------

This week we had student conferences at school. It was the perfect time to talk about my son's behavior at school. It's been approximately 7 weeks since school started and we have gotten at least 5 notes sent home about something he has done relating to his behavior. Nothing super big, but even the little things need attention to prevent the big things later on. We all decided that he is a smart kid and has a good memory. According to his reading level chart he is almost done with the first grade levels. At the end of last year he was at level 5, firmly in the middle of first grade. His reading level now is a 6B. First grade goes to level 7. He has one more spot to go!

------------------

While at work I got a phone call from daycare. Usually never a good sign. Usually means a kid is sick and needs to go home. Not this time. Nope. Something much more interesting happened with this phone call.

One of the daycare workers called to tell me that my girl had a bead stuck up her nose. A bead!! Also, that she said the bead had been up there for a while, and that my girl had told daycare that she told Daddy about the bead this morning. Wait. There had been a bead up her nose all morning, that Daddy knew about?! Something is not right about this. The girl was upset about it so they called me so I could talk to her. She then repeated the whole story. The daycare worker explained that she would try to get it out if I wanted and call me back. So that is what they did. It worked. The bead got out.

Once I got home, Daddy of course knew nothing about the bead up her nose at daycare. He was adamant that the bead was not up her nose while she was with him that morning. Turns out that she later changed her story. She found the bead at daycare, and with the help of two other little friends, the bead somehow got up her nose. She then got scared when she couldn't get it out and started crying, alerting the daycare workers.

I had a conversation with her about the importance of telling the truth the first time. Hopefully she learned that lesson. And, that we don't put things in our nose.

School Spirit

The kids' school decided to make the last Friday of every month school spirit day. Neat. The PTO had some super cute kid shirts that you could purchase to show your school spirit, or just to wear any old day of the week.

I ordered some for the kids and they came in time for the first school spirit day. I loved the red version of the shirts, so that is what I ordered them. They also came in black, and white.

They look adorable.

My girl was excited for spirit day even though her class hadn't started yet at this point.

I made her a matching pleated cheer skirt for school, like the one I made her for football. I only did the elastic band this time, no zipper, and she can easily take it off and put it on.

For September spirit day I had made the girl a chevron peasant dress. I also made her a couple of matching hair bows. I chose the funky one this time.

All I have to say is.....adorable.

Random Kid Moments: #3 (preschool edition)

So, while I was in NC for most of the week with the kiddos and the grandparents, my husband decided to tell me on a Wednesday that someone from the school district called and left a message on Monday on his cell about getting the girl into a preschool program. Well, this information would have been nice to have two days earlier.

I had signed the girl up to do the 4K screening knowing that she was probably overqualified and most likely wouldn't get in. She was overqualified, she scored well, and since we have no delays or issues with her development she wouldn't be accepted.

I spent the good part of a full week trying to contact the representative from the school district we live in to get more information about this other program. Finally, finally! I get a call back from the lady on the way home from work on my cell phone that I have to try to dig out of my pocket in uniform, which is no easy feat, trust me.

We chat and she explains the program and it seems like it will be a good fit for the girl. It's an inclusion preschool program. It's similar to the 4K program, but the inclusion program takes kids who are well-prepared for 4K, like my girl, and kids who may not be as ready and put them in a class together. It's a smaller class size and they will have three teachers instead of two. They'll do activities together and then expand on them in a more individual setting according to each kids' ability. Works for me.

I gave a verbal commitment over the phone to include my girl in the program. It kind of had the same feel as college football signing day only on a preschool level.

When I got home I told the hubs and the girl about her going to school in the fall. She was excited and starting jumping around and saying, "Yea!!" I'm happy that she is excited about going to school. She's been looking forward to it since her brother started school.

Love my house full of nerds.
